Meet Nastassja DeGarmo

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at SHYFT?

I love the diversity in project types that I’ve been able to work on since joining SHYFT. I’ve had a hand in projects varying from corporate office spaces to multi-family residential, and even have had some cool opportunities to research vertical farming and other biophilic design elements for potential projects. My passion lies in residential design, but I love to learn and experience all of the project types!

Q: What are some projects you are currently working on?

I’m currently splitting my time between the project management team and the design team. I assist with PM tasks for F&G as my primary project on that side. On the design side, I’ve recently been working on Pizza Ranch Boone, Forest Ave Rowhomes, and I’ve had the opportunity to assist with a couple of housing development studies in the downtown Des Moines area.

Q: What is the one thing you are most proud of since joining SHYFT?

Since joining SHYFT, I’ve earned my NCIDQ certification. I had been preparing for it for about three years, so I’m happy to have completed all of the exams earlier this year!

Q: What are a few of your career highlights?

During my college experience, I, alongside my studio teams, had the honor of being a finalist in the Hospitality Design Awards in 2019 and 2022 for the two luxury hotel design studios I took. Post-college, my biggest highlights would be getting NCIDQ-certified and having opportunities to stay involved with the university. I love mentoring and providing guidance to the current interior design students at ISU!

Q: Tell us something unique about you.

I was born and raised in Oklahoma and the first time I ever visited Iowa I accepted my offer of admission to Iowa State University. Something about ISU’s campus drew me in and felt like a home away from home. Now I’ve been here for two degrees and a couple years of work! While I love Iowa and I support the Cyclones, I’ll always be an OU fan at heart. Boomer!
