SHYFT is searching for a Project Engineer to join our team. This role will play a key role in coordinating RFIs and submittals, managing document control, and related tasks. In addition to traditional experience, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate at all levels of our services to best showcase our preferred project delivery methods. These opportunities include working directly with the leadership team and firm members in all disciplines, supplemented by client and consultant interaction through focused project work.
Summary
The Project Engineer (PE) supports the successful delivery of construction projects by
coordinating RFIs and submittals, managing document control, tracking procurement
and constraints, assisting with schedule and cost controls, and facilitating
communication between field and office. The PE serves as a technical resource
ensuring that work aligns with contract documents, specifications, and SHYFT quality,
safety, schedule, and cost objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Safety
Model SHYFT’s safety expectations; participate in safety walks; help track/document
safety measures and corrective actions.
2. Project Setup & Document Control
Establish and maintain project document control (drawings, specs, addenda, RFIs,
submittals, meeting minutes, as-builts). Ensure distribution of current documents and
compliance with NDAs where applicable.
3. RFIs
Create, log, route, and track RFIs; monitor due dates; clarify responsibilities; integrate
responses into drawings/documents; notify PM of potential scope impacts.
4. Submittals & Procurement
Develop and maintain submittal and procurement logs aligned to schedule milestones;
review for completeness and constructability; coordinate approvals; verify materials
delivered match requirements.
5. Schedule & Constraint Management
Assist with schedule development/updates; maintain procurement and action item
logs; surface and track constraints (e.g., tools, information, material, manpower,
equipment, safety, space), escalating risks and driving resolution.
6. Cost & Change Management
Support commitment writing, cost tracking, and change management (collection,
pricing, routing, and approvals) in coordination with the PM.
7. Quality & Constructability
Support QA/QC processes; review submittals/drawings for accuracy and
constructability; provide field problem-solving and coordinate with design teams to
maintain design intent and quality standards.
8. Field & Stakeholder Coordination
Facilitate day-to-day coordination with superintendents, trade partners, and vendors;
support punchlist and warranty processes; contribute to positive client relationships.
9. Closeout
Assist in project closeout including final documentation, O&M submission, training
coordination, financial reconciliation support, and lessons-learned capture.
10. Training & Mentorship
Support onboarding of interns/co-ops and share best practices with project teams.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in the field of Construction
Management/Engineering preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Preferred Credentials: FE/EIT, PE, Lean or similar certifications (or willingness
to pursue).
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft 365; familiarity with Procore,
Bluebeam, and scheduling software (e.g., Suretrak, P6)
• Core Competencies: Communication, coordination, problem solving, time
management, and attention to detail.
Physical Demands, Work Environment & Travel
• Ability to work in office and active construction environments (including
exposure to weather, uneven terrain, noise, and typical site hazards) while
wearing required PPE.
• Ability to climb ladders/scaffolds and access elevated or confined areas;
occasional lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.
• Schedule may require >40 hours/week, occasional on-call responsiveness, and
travel between office, project sites, and partner locations.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Supervisory Responsibility
May provide direction to Project Engineer interns/co-ops as assigned.
