Meet Kurt Hagge

Kurt Hagge - Senior Project Architect
Q: How did you get involved with SHYFT? How long have you been with us?
A: I first became aware of SHYFT through my neighbor Eric Simon, VP of Operations. I saw a social media post, that SHYFT was looking for a construction manager. I sent Eric a message, letting him know that construction management is not my skill set, but if they were ever in need of an Architect, to please let me know. Within two weeks I had interviewed and been hired as a Senior Project Architect.
Q: What are some projects you are currently working on?
A: I’m working on quite a few things right now. South Main, Phases I & II (Pella, IA), Main Street Markt (Pella, IA), Pella Design Guidelines (Pella, IA), Iowa Distilling Company (Cumming, IA), Tri-Point Development (Cumming, IA), The Concord (Des Moines, IA), Smash Park (La Vista, NE & Roseville, MN).
Q: What is the one thing you are most proud of since joining SHYFT?
A: During my tenure, I feel like I’ve become somewhat of an authority on designing craft breweries and craft distilleries, within SHYFT’s Des Moines office.
Q: What are a few of your career highlights?
A: Becoming a licensed architect is definitely at the top of my list. In fact, 2022 marks the 10th anniversary of that achievement. Working on a wide range of project types, over the years, has diversified my skillsets; allowing me to become the well-rounded Architect I am today. It has also facilitated my transition into craft brewing/distilling.

Q: Do you prefer working in the office? From home? Or a combination of the two? Why?
A: I prefer to work in the office. The design industry is extremely collaborative and is best executed in person. It helps that SHYFT has assembled a great group of Architects and Interior Designers that I have the
privilege of working with. That said, the flexibility to work from home when needed, is great since I have two young daughters at home.
Q: Tell us something unique about you.
A: I’m a wine enthusiast. My wife and I have vacationed in the wine regions of Napa, Sonoma, and Walla Walla, WA.
Thank you, Kurt, for all you do for the SHYFT Team!
