SHYFT Collective is searching for an Intern Architect with 1-3 years of experience to join our internal design-led design-build Strategic Projects team in both our Des Moines, IA and Phoenix, AZ offices. SHYFT Strategic Projects is a focused team of passionate designers exploring methods of architectural construction delivery through design-led design-build on small, creative, high-end projects. The following are descriptions of some required tasks of the position.

Description:

  • Understand client needs, what makes a successful project, and innovate how to achieve

  • Understand project scope, impact by governing jurisdictional processes, and building codes

  • Understand design fee, project budget, and ability to deliver within parameters

  • Collaborate with internal team members and external trade partners for budgeting and/or constructability review

  • Ability to take direction with assertiveness, to own the assignment, be nimble and innovative

  • Ability to work on several projects at different phases and problem solve on your own

  • Ability to provide quick conceptual design studies and planning diagrams for team review

  • Ability to study 3D form and elevational characteristics for team review

  • Ability to create design output that is cohesive, informative, artful, and enforces our brand

  • Ability to present design to clients or ownership groups and defend design intent

  • Ability to provide technical and specification documentation tailored to the audience

  • Ability to lead small projects, collaborate on-site, and drive a project’s success from start to completion

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Architecture

  • Software skill requirements:

  • REVIT and AutoCAD (ability to make minor edits for REVIT)

  • Adobe Creative Suite

  • SketchUp (in a pinch if we must, for Zane)

  • Project planning experience, along with the ability to understand and work within project scopes, budgets, and schedules

  • Insert an appropriate movie quote at any point during a meeting

  •  Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prioritize responsibilities
